The Human Connection

Sung to "The Rainbow Connection" by Paul Williams (Cathy D. 6/2011)

Why are there so many
Tales about monsters,
Violent and ugly and mean?

Monsters are beings,
They’re not all illusions.
Some monsters are not what they seem.

So we’ve been told,
You could choose to believe it,
I’d rather just wait and see.
Some day they’ll make that
Long lost connection
‘Tween monsters and hu-man-i-ty.

Who says that monsters
Are horrid and scary,
And not worth keeping alive?
Somebody thought of that
And someone believed it.
They’re all just tryin’ to survive.

What’s so un-nerving that
keeps our heads turning?
What do we think we might see?
Some day they’ll make that
Long lost connection
‘Tween monsters and hu-man-I-ty.

Why can’t we just all get along?
Invite all the neighbors to tea —-?

Have you been half-asleep
And have you heard voices
Calling from under the bed?
Trying to scare you,
Or asking forgiveness
Don’t think it’s just in your head.

All they are trying to do is be normal.
Don’t we all want the same thing?
Some day we’ll make that
Long lost connection
‘tween monsters and hu-man-I-ty.

La-la-laaa, la-la -la…
